Seven overdoses at EMDC, Naloxone applied – The London Free Press

Seven inmates who overdosed Thursday at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre were all discovered at the same time by corrections staff, London police say.

Michelle Romano, relief media officer for London police, said the overdoses were caused by “some type of drug.”

“We know it’s an opiod,” she added.

London police, fire personnel and EMS arrived at the scene about 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

All seven inmates were conscious when they were transported to hospital, Romano noted.

“Naloxone was used,” she said, meaning one or more of the inmates had to be revived.

The embattled EMDC has been a flashpoint for security and safety concerns for years.
