Police find dead body floating in River Wandle in south wast London – Evening Standard

Police are investigating after a dead body was recovered from the River Wandle in south west London.

Merton police said they found a body floating in the river near Marantum Way and Merton Abbey Mills.

They are treating the death as unexplained and await formal identification of the body after they were alerted at 10.30am today.

The Wandle runs through Croydon, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth before it joins the Thames.

Merton police posted on Twitter: “Crime scene in the Wandle – #MertonAbbeyMills We were called today at approximately 10:30hrs to reports of a body found in the water of the River Wandle near Merantum Way / Merton Abbey Mills.

“We are treating the death as unexplained currently and a formal identification awaits.”

“Please keep speculation to a minimum until a formal investigation is completed out of respect for the family. More to follow and the families wishes will be considered in all future updates. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this troubling time,” police added.
