After helping to save the iconic venue from closure, Frank Turner headlines the Clapham’s reopening party this Friday

Here’s some much-needed good news: London’s Clapham Grand is officially reopening this week and has also announced a series of shows that will run this year. In addition to receiving emergency funding as part of the government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund, the Clapham Grand managed to raise over £50k itself and £15k at three successful Save Live Comedy shows last month, making it possible for the venue to survive and once again stage a number of shows.

The beloved London venue has announced that it will also reopen its top balcony which has been closed for 15 years and was last used at an Oasis gig in 2005. With the newly refurbished balcony, the venue will now be able to hold an additional 100 people, increasing its maximum capacity to 400. Due to physical distancing measures, overall capacity has been reduced from the venue’s standard 1250 people, but the ability to sell even an additional 100 tickets in the upper circle will surely help the Clapham survive this difficult period.

Frank Turner

This Friday, Frank Turner will return to the Clapham Grand stage after he raised £25k for the ‘Save The Grand’ campaign by performing at a government-endorsed pilot of his ‘Independent Venue Love’ live stream from the venue in the summer. The English punk/folk singer-songwriter has been instrumental in helping to save the Clapham Grand from closure and his special performance will mark the reopening of both the venue and its upper circle for the first time in 15 years.

Other upcoming shows at the Clapham Grand in the coming months include Courtney Act, Russell Howard, Daniel Sloss, Jimmy Carr and Louise Redknapp. Live streams of many of the shows will be available to view online for those who miss out on tickets or are unable to attend.
