Currach rowers to hold Irish regatta in New London on Saturday – theday.com
New London — The New London Currach Rowers is hosting an Irish rowing regatta Saturday.
The team will compete against other teams in the North American Currach Association. The races will begin about noon from the Customs House Pier at 98 S. Water St. They will include races with four men, four women, three men, three women, two men, two women, one man and one woman, two men and two women, one man, and one woman.
According to the North American Currach Association, a currach is “an Irish wood-framed boat, traditionally covered with animal skins, although modern currachs now use canvas and tar.”
The local rowing club formed in 2008, following the New London Main Street’s Celts & Currach Festival in 2007.
